Apartment was not clean upon moving in. It was in a state of disrepair. The whole unit could really use some attention to bring it up to a satisfactory standard.
The shared kitchen was a huge mess, splatters all over the kitchen appliances. I cringe every time I have to use anything in there.
The bathroom had no exhaust fan so the room steams up and walls become wet with condensation.
Hot water can take as long as 10-15mins to come through (this is not an exaggeration). When it does finally arrive it may only last for a few minutes before coming through cold again. This is extremely poor and should be addressed as it is very wasteful.
Rooms are very poorly insulated, you will hear every time someone opens and closes their door, the front door, anything happening in the kitchen, conversations etc. This was a MASSIVE issue for me being someone that doesn’t fair well without a solid 6-8hrs sleep a night. A lot of the people that stay here are from countries where it’s part of their culture to stay up late and eat meals late at night/early morning so sound deadening between rooms and at doorways to ensure peace and quiet for all guests should be a PRIORITY.
There are no recycling facilities, all waste goes in the same bins, again, very wasteful.
The internet is very poor, Ethernet ports in my room didn’t work. WiFi reception was fine on my laptop for most of the time but phone was absolutely terrible. Constantly had to turn WiFi off and on again to reconnect in order to be able to load anything. A few times my laptop WiFi didn’t lose connection but lost internet connectivity.
As some other people have said you are charged extra to use the secure undercover carpark, but the concrete isn’t waterproofed and as such water seeps through, picks up minerals out of the concrete and drips onto cars if you aren’t in a good spot.
Passive aggressive notes are often left in the apartments about the state of the common areas, saying that if they aren’t cleaned or x isn’t moved by this date all tenants will have to pay between them $250 for a minimum 1 hour of cleaning. Ironically these notes often refer to areas that are supposedly cleaned every 2 weeks by staff?!
I have had mixed experiences with staff, one lady I dealt with at reception was lovely and very helpful, others not so much.
Part of the time I was staying at Uniresort, units were being constructed next door, this was not really an issue for me as the hours were 6am to about 5pm and I was awake during these hours anyway, but they neglected to mention this when booking and were pushy to make me pay for the whole stay up front. My room was close enough to this site that I felt like it would have been just for them to disclose this. Another issue was night works in the street. Usually council or contractors letterbox prior to commencing night works to let residents know they will be making noise. Again, I’m sure Uniresort was notified of this but nothing was passed onto residents. This was the night before I sat an exam, so some notice would have been nice so I could have made alternate arrangements.
In hindsight I should have found alternative accommodation.
Upon moving out, despite having to clean your room, you are charged a mandatory fee for cleaning.
In summary, avoid if you can. The rooms are very expensive for what they are, you could find a share place with less housemates for cheaper if you look around. The noise and lack of cleanliness was biggest problem for me. The layout doesn’t help with all the rooms off a hallway that runs off the common areas. Pretty much any noise in common areas is transmitted down the hall, and into your room.
